Unlike other Broadband Services like Reliance, Airtel and HFCLConnect, BSNL Broadband uses Modem in Bridge mode. You have to use PPPoE instead of regular DSL Connection. It's really easy to configure BSNL Broadband.
Unlike other Broadband Services like Reliance, Airtel and HFCLConnect, BSNL Broadband uses Modem in Bridge mode. You have to use PPPoE instead of regular DSL Connection. It's really easy to configure BSNL Broadband.
Step 1 : Create a Wired Connection, BSNL
Switch off Modem. Right click on the Icon of Network Manager Applet at Top Panel.
Click on Edit Connections and select 'Wired' tab.
Click on Add button. Type 'BSNL' in Connection Name box.
Click on IPv4 Settings Tab and select Manual in method drop down list.
Click on Add button and enter correct Address, Netmask, Gateway and DNS Servers.
Click on Apply button.
Step 2 : Configure PPPoE
Switch on Modem and let it do its job for 15-30 seconds. You will notice that BSNL, Connection Established notification will appear at Top-right corner of screen. In case Notification doesn't appear and Network Manager Applet Icon doesn't change to connection mode, restart machine. Keep Modem on while system restarts.
Open Terminal and execute this: sudo pppoeconf
A semi-graphical dialog box will appear. Accept default options and enter correct Username/Password when prompted.
Thats all ! PPPoE will start Internet Service and you will be Online !!
Use these commands to view log and connect or disconnect Broadband service ::
Start connection : sudo pon dsl-provider
Check log : plog
Stop connection : sudo poff
A lot of Users don't enter correct IP Addresses during BSNL Connection setup. Make sure to enter correct values. Accept default options during PPPoE setup.
