    As an experiment try to load lots of songs and close the playlist window. Does it still freeze? I recall that reading the extended info from the tracks can somtimes interupt playback. failing that "cplay" in a very nice ncurses audio player that looks great in a transparent aterm:)

    I had a problem similar to this in Man10. First off, try running xmms from a terminal, see if it still freezes.
