Firefox 2.x: New pages spawn new window, when preferences set to "new tab"
On both my home installation (SimplyMEPIS 6.5) and my work installation (Debian Etch), I've set preferences for Firefox (or Iceweasel) to "New pages should be opened in a new tab." Yet on both machines, a new page always spawns a new window by default. If I right-click, I can select "Open Link in New Tab" -- but obviously I'd rather not always do that.
Any suggestions for getting FF/IW to behave?

Yes, there is something else to do here.
Iceweasel behaves differently then Firefox (by default).
Type
in Iceweasel address bar, and make sure the following variable are properly set:Code:about:config
To match Firefox 2 default behavior, they should be set respectively to 3, 3 and 2.Code:browser.link.open_external browser.link.open_newwindow browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction
More details here:

Hey, that worked like magic -- at least at work, in Iceweasel, on Debian. I'll see if it works as well at home of MEPIS, in Firefox. Thanks.
