    Nevermind. I figured out what I was doing wrong. I had a sound card configuration problem, but I fixed it. Thanx, Mplayer is awesome....ltr.

    you should try xine.i think it's better and has build in gui.try it at
    xinehq.de/index.php/releases

    that's great to hear. i have found mplayer to be quite the swiss army knife for linux multimedia. but i also do use xine, as i am a slackware user.
