Lots of Bootloader Questions
Well I have a lot of bootloader Questions. So well, I hope somebody can answer them.
Grub takes a awfull long time to load, why can this be?
Grub supports Images does Lilo aswell?
If so how can I make them work?
Is lilo Quicker then Grub?
Can a bootloader parse arguments to the Bash so they will be executed when booted? (Eg a X11 or Console line in the Bootloader)
Or Basicly all my questions come down to.
Where can I find a good Bootloader tutorial that covers both Lilo and Grub (and maybe others like Das uBoot) that is current?
Thanks,
Cheers,
Robin

I don't really know why it should be taking so long. About how long does it take? Are you getting any boot errors? Does the boot process seem to be stalling in some way?Grub takes a awfull long time to load, why can this be?
If you mean splash images, yes LILO supports them. Here's a HowTo that was written for Ubuntu users showing how to use them, but you should be able to convert it to the distro of your choice easily enough. It's pretty basic, but should give you the general idea about how it works.Grub supports Images does Lilo aswell?
No, I've not found LILO to be noticeably quicker at booting than GRUB.Is lilo Quicker then Grub?
You can introduce various boot options into the boot commands at boot time. Can a bootloader parse arguments to the Bash so they will be executed when booted? (Eg a X11 or Console line in the Bootloader)

This might be the best tutorial for LILO.
I'm not sure that a GRUB/LILO combination tutorial exists, but it might.
Devils_casper is very good at this GRUB stuff, so maybe he'll see your post and provide some tips and advice.oz

Hi oz,

You have posted excellent advice and suggestions. Nothing left for me here.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

If you are thinking about switching to LILO, maybe you should give it a spin. Experiencing it for yourself would answer a lot of your questions. The thing is, more and more distros seem to be using GRUB by default these days. I used to just love LILO, but after switching to GRUB about 3 years ago, I never looked back.
