    mplayer will not work at all unless i use this command.
    Code:
    gmplayer -vo x11 -ao oss
    i have tried reinstalling and deleting the the ~/.mplayer folder but it still acts like its not installed.

    It could be that you have some sort of audio or video driver problem. What happens when you run "gmplayer" or "mplayer" in a terminal? If the commands in your post above work, you could just create an alias so that when you run gmplayer, they are the ones that will get run.
