rpm/yum problems
Hi everyone, been trying to install ethereal using the rpm file but when i type rpm -Uvh ethereal.....src.rpm all i get is a load of warnings saying "warning: user gerald does not exist - using root" if also tried using yum to get the software but when i open it it says that another process is already using it and then it freezes. any ideas on what i should do? thanks

You installed a source rpm (src.rpm) and not a binary rpm. Source rpms are meant to be built into actual rpms or developers use them to look at source code. One thing to note is that Ethereal is now known as wireshark and most distros include it in their software repositories so you can install it using your distributions package manager.
