Has anyone tried this?

I'm loving FUSE, but apparently this individual project hasn't been updated in 3 years.

It didn't work straight away for me. Has anyone invested the effort required to get this up? If so, how was the experience?

For those who haven't heard about it; hierfs allows one to index removable media and to transparently mount these indices. If it then allows one to change the filestructure of the index without breaking the links, it would be invaluable.
