Does anybody have any recommendations for a p2p music downloader for the xubuntu distro? I used to have Limewire when I used windows, but I wasn't able to install the linux version.

Try to stick to your Package Manager when installing software. In your case you are using an Ubuntu based distro and it uses a manager called Synaptic Package Manager. If you open that up you can search for P2P applications to install. Synaptic will download them for you and do all the installing.
aMule and Gnutella are two of the most popular. I believe Limewire itself was using the Gnutella network for sharing. Also you'll notice that neither of these are packed with the spywire Limewire was

Yes but why depend on a limited network like Gnutella?I think you should try using BitTorrent via Wine.
