So the installation looked like it completed successfully?

    Man, I'm confused now.

What happens when you type the command it advises you to? (Post the exact message please.)

You wrote that the error was,
    Code:
VirtualBox kernel driver not installed. The vboxdrv kernel module was either not loaded or /dev/vboxdrv was not created for some reason. Re-setup the kernel module by executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' as root.
    VBox status code: -1908 (VERR_VM_DRIVER_NOT_INSTALLED).
What happens if you type this?
    Code:
    /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup
Remember you should be root to do this?

I meant that you should execute those commands as user root -- which you did!

I'm totally perplexed by this. Googling around a little shows that a lot of users are experiencing the same problems as you, but I can't find any solutions

Let me hunt around a little for you.

I might have something. Try this,
    Code:
    apt-get install virtualbox-ose-modules-`uname -r`
Just copy and paste that directly and tell me if it worked. If it did, try the original command again.
    Code:
    /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup
EDIT: I read you might have to enter the last command twice to get it working. I've no idea why that might be, but it can't hurt

    Good luck
