I have decided to stick with OS / distibution / desktop independent applications as much as possible because I just started running a Gnome-based distro on one laptop and a KDE-based distro on the other laptop. Makes it much easier to transfer settings and account information. Thunderbird is great and I don't need the other functionality in Evolution.
