VMware - How does it work?

Hi, i am currently thinking bout gettin a 64 bit AMD processor, and would like to run windows inside a virtual machine in Linux.

now my brother has suggested that this might be posible, but depending on how VMWare works.

Dows anyone know if this would be possible at all?

It will work, been using vmware since v1.
It's very easy, installing W2K or WinXP or older.
But I don't know how it behaves when running 3D games in vmware.

are you 100% sure it will work on a 64 bit system though? cos my bro sez that if it will use the Win2K kernel, it will crash the pc, whereas if it will use the Linux kernel, i will effectively be running Win 2K on a 64 bit system!

If you run the 64bit version of the linux kernel and use VMWare to emulate a 32bit hardware, it will run.
Read the information of the Opterion, the AMD 64 proc, at their site.
If you don't have an 64Bit OS it will switch internaly and use native 32Bit instructions.

    So W2K should work too.
Think AMD has tested it before.
