I'm trying to figure out how to setup lirc. I'm using a MCE remote, and it is working by default in ubuntu (without lirc even installed), but I want to customize the setup for my purposes, and therefore need lirc.

But I'm already having issues using irrecord. It's throwing this at me:

irrecord: could not get file information for /dev/lirc
irrecord: default_init(): No such file or directory
irrecord: could not init hardware (lircd running ? --> close it, check permissions)
(yes i have lircd running)

I've looked at several tutorials and they all seem to be throwing me in different directions. Me = Confused.
