Exclamation [SOLVED] How to update from firefox 3.0 to firefox 3.5 through yum

    Hi Everyone:

Recently I have installed Fedora 10. It comes with firefox 3.xx by default. Now I was wondering if there is any way through which i can update it to 3.5 version though yum. I have tried

    yum update firefox

but it did not work and returns following messages

    Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit
    Setting up Update Process
    No Packages marked for Update

I know that one way to update is download the latest Tar package and use it, but I want to totally remove my previous installation and use solely one package i.e. firefox 3.5.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Ehsan ul haq

This has to do with the Repo.
If your repo only hosts Firefox 3 it will not be able to update till it finds 3.5
If you really really want 3.5 I'd advice to just add an extra Repo or get Firefox directly from the Firefox webpage.

    Hi RobinVossen:

Thanks for your reply and time. Can you kindly guide me how can I add an extra Repo? Moreover, is it a safe procedure to do it like this? By safe I mean that is there any chance that this procedure will corupt my OS? Actually I'm just asking for my information because I am new to this Linux world and I really like things going smooooooooooooothly.

    Regards,

    Open a terminal do this:

    Code:
    cd /etc/yum.repos.d
    su
    wget http://rpms.famillecollet.com/remi-release-10.rpm
    rpm -Uvh remi-release-10.rpm
    yum update firefox --enablerepo=remi

Thanks a million times guys. Robin accept my heartiest gratitude for increasing my knowledge about repos, and Reed9 hats off to you for making this process a piece of cake for me.
