    Welcome to the forums!

Check out Synaptic if you are new to Linux:

Installing software under Ubuntu doesn't get much easier.

If you want to use the command line, use apt as suggested in the post above:

    https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/serverguide/C/apt-get.html

This guide was based on Ubuntu 8.04 but the commands still work with later versions.

    Synaptic Package Manger

Its a simple, user friendly package manager. Make sure that your machine has internet access.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

I will also check on how the Package manager installs the file. Are there any useful sites that provide more information on using Ubuntu esp. for networking to other machines and printers
