Is it possible for Nagios to check for a file, and depending on the result disable the checks?
Nagios checks for file, its not there so it keeps on monitoring
Nagios checks for file, its there, stop monitoring
Nagios checks for file, its no there start monitoring again

Nagios is flexible enough for you to do this, according to your own rules. Here is a link to the Nagios event handlers documentation, which would provide you with that capability: Event Handlers
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
