can't sign on to gaim

i have an instant messenger account with aim, so can i use that account with gaim? i tried to and i couldn't sign on

You should be able to use gaim with aim account, try it again, and if an error comes up post it, o'r otheerwise if your in KDE try Kopete

right. well thanks for trying. i tryed kopete and it didn't work either. i'm confused by how it seems like it doesn't even try to sign on, like it already knows my password.

when i try to connect, this is what it says:

Kopete is unable to attempt to sign-on to the AIM network because no password was specified in the preferences.

well it could be, but i was signed in last night on my windows pc.

I don't know which release of the applications you have , can you tell me the release numbers of those apps. you have?
Just try to install the new releases of the apps. , and for gaim install the gtlspell also.
