    Checking wether the C compiler works... No (sigh)

    Hello, I hope this is the right place for this....

    To quick start off, im running Fedora17

    Im new to compiling programs from source, but I needed to add some extra stuff to the ./configure so I had to compile myself.

    when I run the ./configure I receive the following:
    Code:
    checking build system type... x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu
    checking host system type... x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu
    checking for gcc... gcc
    checking whether the C compiler works... no
    configure: error: in `/home/Daniel/Downloads/gdal-1.10.0':
    configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
    See `config.log' for more details

    So I went to check the config.log, not sure what to look for. However, this seems to look problematic:
    Code:
    gcc version 4.7.2 20120921 (Red Hat 4.7.2-2) (GCC)
    configure:3321: $? = 0
    configure:3310: gcc -V >&5
    gcc: error: unrecognized command line option '-V'
    gcc: fatal error: no input files
    compilation terminated.
    configure:3321: $? = 4
    configure:3310: gcc -qversion >&5
    gcc: error: unrecognized command line option '-qversion'
    gcc: fatal error: no input files
    compilation terminated.
    configure:3321: $? = 4
    configure:3341: checking whether the C compiler works
    configure:3363: gcc -02 -march=k8 -pipe   conftest.c  >&5
    gcc: error: unrecognized command line option '-02'
    configure:3367: $? = 1
    configure:3405: result: no
    configure: failed program was:
    | /* confdefs.h */
    | #define PACKAGE_NAME ""
    | #define PACKAGE_TARNAME ""
    | #define PACKAGE_VERSION ""
    | #define PACKAGE_STRING ""
    | #define PACKAGE_BUGREPORT ""
    | #define PACKAGE_URL ""
    | /* end confdefs.h.  */
    |
    | int
    | main ()
    | {
    |
    |   ;
    |   return 0;
    | }
    configure:3410: error: in `/home/Daniel/Downloads/gdal-1.10.
    I have never really had any experience with gcc... so im a bit confused. Any help would be appreciated.

    In my blind noobish attack... I added some thing that some stupid tutorial had before the ./config command. anyway, removed that and everything worked...
