Using Pidgin with Non Gmail Google Account (confusing...)

    Hi all,

I got an email account with my school that is provided through google but the domain is @lawnet..... not @gmail.com. I can check this email account by going to gmail.com and putting in "user@lawnet...." which comes with gchat.

My question is, is there any way to get this chat into pidgin? I have played around with settings and what not and just can't get it to work.

    Thanks in advance

I can be found either 40 miles west of Chicago, in Chicago, or in a galaxy far, far away.

You should be able to use Pidgin with Google Chat - they use (AFAIK) the IRC (Internet Relay Chat) protocol. What account do you use for your pidgin connection? Have you input the correct password?

You should be able to just put that address into Pidgin and tell it to use the google talk protocol. Have you tried that?

This one slipped through my grasp and forgot all about it As for the two comments:

I use XMPP protocol (which is the same as my regular gmail account one)
    Password is definitely input correctly

It just refuses to connect, for "domain" I'm putting in the full one provided by my school which is lawnet.xxx.edu (again, not gmail, just provided by google). When I log in to the account in firefox I just go to gmail.com and instead of just putting in my username I put in my full email (jmadero@lawnet.xxx.edu) and password, the interface is identical to gmail, I get a google plus account, calendar, and all of those things, as well as the integrated change in gmail and plus.

Thoughts appreciated as I hate having to open a browser just to chat with school colleagues
