How can i install new Python parellelly with old version?

Hello, i have CentOS EL 5.1
The latest python there is 2.4.3 and its marked as latest version.

I read here and here its not recommended to upgrade python manually on CentOS so i want to install new version paralelly because an application i want to use requires higher python version (creator told it to me) and it failed to install using my version. How can i install new python paralelly, easilly please?

    Python download: Download Python

    thank you

UPDATE: Here is some steps on how it can be installed (hopefully).

When i followed the steps it told me this after i did "make" command:

Python build finished, but the necessary bits to build these modules were not found:
    _bsddb _curses _curses_panel
    _sqlite3 _ssl _tkinter
    bsddb185 bz2 dbm
    dl gdbm imageop
    readline sunaudiodev zlib
To find the necessary bits, look in in detect_modules() for the module's name.

    How can i install these?

do a "yum list available" and pipe that to a file.

then grep that file for those package names. look for packages that have -devel in them and that's probably what you want (those packages contain header files which are used when compiling other programs). that won't get all of them, but it is a start.
