spread bookmarks icons in the browsers bar

Both Firefox and Palemoon very unreasonably treat the space in the bookmarks bar. I like to have as many as possible bookmarks (only the icons with deleted text) in the bar. In WinXp with both browsers almost 60 icons fit there, in Linux Mint it's only slightly over 40. This is really hard to understand. Is there a way to change this bad spacing of the icons in the bar?

I think my question is why do you have so many bookmarks in the bookmark bar? Why not only put ones that you use on a daily basis in the bookmark bar and put the rest in the drop down bookmark menu?
No matter where ya' go, there ya' are.
