    What happened to OpenOffice BASE?

After Sun was aquired by Oracle, OpenOffice.org was made dead. Some big companies and non profit organization built Libreoffice Foundation to continue the project and renamed it to LibreOffice. Note that the original OpenOffice.org was donated to Apache Foundation after some time LibreOffice was started, but it was too late -- major distributions have switched their office distribution to libreoffice and libreoffice has gained more support.

Base is part of Libre Office but not all distributions install it by default. In the Debian family tree, the package will probably be called libreoffice-base.

    Right. See this link https://packages.debian.org/sid/libreoffice-base

If you are looking for exactly OpenOffice, it isn't available any more in a recent Debian version.

Umm thanks, I'm on Fedora - but I haven't upgraded it to the latest greatest.
