    Question kazam under kubuntu 14.04

I can use kazam to create videos but the mp4 files are too large. I would like to produce files that are much smaller.

    Advice please.

    This fulfils the requirements
    cat /dev/null > YOUR_EXPENDABLE_FILE

    Edit: Dont copy&paste this, obviously.

You must always face the curtain with a bow.

I don't see how this reduces the file size. I was hoping for a codec/filter that could be imported into kazam and produced a file of smaller size, such as flv.

To my knowledge flv is a container, what it has to do with video size?

Edit: Checked it, flv definitely is a container.

Got curious ... it is a screen recorder written in Python3. As such it is very easy to modify, to use H.265 for instance to produce smaller files, more computing power is needed for H.265 of course.

if someone went to the bother to write a user interface for a screen recorder, i'm sure there are also some encoding options somewhere.

worst case, i'd just transcode the video afterwards with ffmpeg. a web search will go a long way with that.

I put "ebay green button" into web search, it is amazing how many green buttons one can get for a few bucks.

To get a smaller file one has to downscale it. For instance MKV container allows for automatic upscaling at playback, so despite some sharpness will be lost the original size can be kept.
