Well, I went through my old messages, here is one that repeats over and over. Not sure what is on bus 0, 0, 0 I have pasted several lines from messages. They look suspicious.

It's not quite the same kernel in RH8 as in RH7.3. It's the same kernel distribution, but different RH modifications. I couldn't really imagine that's it, but who knows. It is, after all, the same redhat that's famous for gcc-2.96...
I'm running RH8, too, but with the latest 2.4 kernel (2.4.20), which I got from www.kernel.org. I guess that I should suggest you to get it, too. After all, who knows? I guess I might have made other core modifications, too, but nothing that I can recall right now.

Thanks for the replies. Just an update. I have been troubleshooting for quite sometime now. I noticed when I would put a cd-rom in either of the drives, it would "lock" my system up tight. Had to "hard" reboot. I tried one IDE drive at a time, tried different cables, changed jumper settings, changed DMA modes, PIO modes...nothing worked. I also removed my SCSI contrller, disconnected my SCSI tape drive. No change. I then put just my external CD writer on (SCSI)
put a cd-rom in the drive, it worked...I could read the CD, etc. I next tried to blank a disk, which worked. I then tried to write another ISO image. Failed again, just lke before. No upon bootup, it get this message over and over.

(scsi0:A:6:0): parity error detected in Message-in phase. SEQADDR(0x1be) SCSIRAT
    E(0x0)

I checked the hard disk with a "dd" command. 100000 records in and out. No I/O errors.

This is weired. I cannot think of anything else, but upgrading the kernel.
