    Hello it's me again.. yeah i have many questions...probably really dumm one too...

    ok here goes:

    1.Do i have to log in as root in order to install something like samba for all users?

    2.Where do i have to save the rpms etc...?

    Yes you have to logon as root to be able to configure and install things on your linux box.

    To install rpm-pckages you just use the rpm-command

    Code:
    rpm -ivh <packagename>
    to install the package, after you have performed this command successfully the program is installed and the .rpm file can be removed.

    No you dont have to specifie a install-location but ofcource you hace to specifie the correct path to the rpm-package.

    Code:
    rpm -ivh <pathtorpm>/<packagename>
