linux version of Winrar

i have some files i really need, but they are in a .rar

i read somewhere that you need to pay for the program that will extract rars, or can i run winrar through wine or something?

I had a rar file on my linux partiton not to long ago a couple days and i extracted/opened it with no problem using Ark u should try the software that comes with linux instead of going right for the windows version

use unrar, it will work with file-roller too

i tried to use file-rolller and unrar, but it asks for a bunch of arguments that i'm not sure what it all wants

check the man pages for them to find out about the arguments. Using Ark is very easy, in konqueror you can right-click on the file and one of the choices is to unpack with ark (or open with ark).

well i got unrar to work.. sort of...

it extracts all of the folders within the rar archive, but none of the files are in there.

i had trouble getting file-roller to work correctly too.. i'm gunna try to get ark now

Under FC3 (should work for any RPM-based distro though), I just installed the unrar RPM, and file-roller could use it with no issues.
Under Gentoo, I just emerged unrar, and it worked with file-roller with no issues either.
