OK, I'm trying to install the gui version of mplayer, and I'm having difficulty finding one of it's dependencies, libpng-dev , preferably as an rpm.
Any help?...

That gives me libpng-devel, but the ./configure of the gui mplayer still fails saying it requires libpng-dev to be installed.

should be the same thing? devel = dev?
Give it a go, you can always remove it if it does not work.

Nope, it still complains. Here's the exact message:
I have libpng and libpng-devel installed -Code:Error: PNG support required for GUI compilation, please install libpng and libpng-dev packages.
I assumed that I needed the dev package instead of devel.Code:[coppertop@jupiter MPlayer-0.90]$ rpm -qa libpng* libpng-1.2.2-16 libpng10-1.0.13-8 libpng-devel-2.1.0.3-1
Am I wrong? Or did I install the packages wrong?

what you say makes sense.
When searching for libpng-dev, everything seemed to lead to libpng-devel.

OK, I found the following file:
libpng-dev_1.2.1-1.1.woody.3_i386.deb
This might be the one, but how do I install a debian file?\"Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.\"

you will need to convert the package to an RPM based format, "Alien" is a piece of software that can do this: http://www.kitenet.net/programs/alien/
