Ok, I never saw this done, but perhaps it can be. Here is a situation, I got a server downstairs that I can hock into my cable lines in my house. I want to be able to use a TV-output card to play movies from this server (mpg or avi) without starting X. Is there a way to redirect output directly to the card without starting X and be able to control the program from command line? This is pretty bizarre and perhaps impossible, but perhaps ....
