I cannot get Wine-20030709 to install

I cd to the dir and when I try to run the installer I get :-
    Code:
     [mike@localhost wine-20030709]$ ./tools/wineinstall
    WINE Installer v0.74

    Running configure...

    ./configure: line 88: conf5520.sh: Permission denied
    ./configure: line 89: conf5520.sh: Permission denied
chmod: failed to get attributes of `conf5520.sh': No such file or directory
    ./configure: line 201: conf5520.file: Permission denied
    ./configure: line 949: config.log: Permission denied

    Configure failed, aborting install.
    I guess there's a missing script

Well He isn't root, so that will probably most likely be the problem. Anything else and i couldn't even begin to understand unless you had missing dependencies.

If I su root I get this error telling me NOT to be root

    Code:
    [root@localhost wine-20030709]# ./tools/wineinstall
    WINE Installer v0.74

You are running wineinstall as root, this is not advisable. Please rerun as a user.
    Aborting.
    [Edit]
I've noticed it denies different files :-

    conf5963.sh
    conf6064.sh
    conf5520.sh

I did a search for *.sh and there are no conf*.sh on this box

    goto sourceforge.net and get wine.
    then go here http://www.winehq.com/?page=howto.

i just installed it yesterday and it worked fine on mandrake9.0 except being that it's the wrong build for 9.0, the one at sourceforge is for mandrake 9.1 (which you are using)

however, being i'm new to linux and i'm use to windows i double clicked the .rpm file and it brought up a window that installed wine for me. maybe you could just do that?

i have no idea if this will help. i'm new the linux, but i figured i would let you know how i did it.

they're probably part of wine, being extracted for the configuration...but as the anon. said, since you are in Mandrake, you could just try the RPM...
