internet explorer under wine
to try and get IE running under wine (don't ask why i want to do that) i went here: http://sidenet.ddo.jp/winetips/config.html
yet when i try to install it using option 1 i get this:
SETUP STAGE 3
Setting up wine configuration ...
Downloading Internet Explorer 6 setup ...
./ie6setup_EN-US.exe: Permission denied
ERROR: Download failed, Please download ie6setup.exe manually and try again.
Setup aborted.
can anyone help me fix this.
thanks.

Hi
I am not that hot on linux but have a reasonable understanding of how it works.
It sounds to me like with the user account you are using you don't have write permission to where you are downloading it?
Logon as root or su and try the same.
If it still doesn't work change the permissions. I know the command is chmod but I am not exactly sure of the top of my head what permissions you need to set.
Sorry, I know you said don't ask but why IE on linux? Is it to do browser testing for web sites?
Good luck

when i try to run the setup as root it says "cannot run setup as root"
lol i knew someone would ask. basicly, some sites simply don't work with firefox or any other browser apart from IE. so for this i need ie. and it is a bit of a hassle to keep rebooting to windows for 1 site.

I have tried many browsers:links, dillo, Firefox, Konqueror, IE5.5-6, Mozilla and Netscape.
Never had a problem with any of them. How to know if you are a geek.

Re: internet explorer under wine
Sorry, my curiosity has gotten the best of me. Why do you want to do that?
