    su

could anyone tell me what the reason could possibly be that when i try to 'su' from my normal user account in Gentoo, it says
    Code:
    Password:
    su: Permission denied.
    Sorry.
i read the man page and found nothing... i'm wondering if it was a compile time option that needs to be reset, but i can't find the Portage package that 'su' is in...
**edit: scratch that.. found out i had to add the user acct to the 'wheel' group.. i feel retarded..

It might depend on the distro or kernel, but I thought if you supplied the wrong password, all you got back was the not-so-informative
    Code:

I've had that happen a couple of times after I was screwing around with permissions. I've had a friend have that randomly happen also... not sure what the cause is.. or a fix for that matter
