    i started it, it start ups no problem, i can't search or anything because the connection of/for port ****(don't remember the exact port number) is blocked at the local host....

    Do you have a firewall? Check what "iptables -L -n" returns.

    the router has a firewall, but i believe i for the most part have it disabled. what should i look for listing the ip tables?

    If it has any specific rules in any chain. If you cannot interpret the output, just post it here instead.

    The router shouldn't matter; you're running the client and the daemon on the same computer, right?

    yeah i'm only running linux on the one computer, i don't really remember installing the daemon, i thought it was installed with giFTcurs, but maybe i'm wrong though...lol....maybe thats something i should check

    How are you starting the daemon? What output does it give?
