    Root login probs

Hi I did say I was a newby! I use autologin and when I open konsole (which I think is an editor that you mention and the only editor I seem to have) I am logged in as myname@localhost and I don't know how to change this to root login. I installed mandrake 10.1 and so the myname login I thought would be the root one, anyway it won't let me access a lot of the files which would be available in root but I don't know how to get to root.
Any help please! this is a bit of a learning curve but I'm not going to give up just yet.
    Thanks
    Andy

the konsole is not an editor,it's a bit like having a dos box but more powerful.
    to change to root

    Code:
    su
    then press enter
    it will then display

    Code:
    password
enter the root password (you do remember it?) that will give you root users permissions. when finished type

    Code:
    exit
that will get you back to normal user mode
    to edit a file type

    Code:
    kate filename
where filename is the name of the file you wish to edit
