I tried to install Totem 1.3.0 from source (my first time doing such a thing...) and it doesn't work.

When I type

, after a long list of checks I am returned:

 checking for backend libraries... checking for XINE... Package libxine was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libxine.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'libxine' found
Never mind, I thought, I'll install libxine.

I uninstalled libxine 1.0 from my computer via the MandrakeControl thing, downloaded xine-lib-1.1.1.tar.gz and installed it (typing ./config then make then make install) as root.

But the Totem installation still displays the same error.

So:

1) is xine-lib the same thing as libxine ? I have been looking for a libxine rpm for Mandriva 2005 but couldn't find above 1.0.

2) how would I "add the directory containing `libxine.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable" ?
