After carefully following all instructions, checking all output for errata, and again...

It seems that the best thing that I can get after seemingly installing the two packages is

root@USBOU1-DHDLINUX:~# tsql -S usbou1-scallog -U real_username
locale is "C"
charset is "ANSI_X3.4-1968"
Password:
Msg 5703, Level 0, State 1, Server USBOU1-SCALLOG, Line 0
Changed language setting to us_english.

I can then ctrl-c out of this and go on to create the DSN as the driver (according to all of the documentation that I can get my hands on) is now configured. Did I miss a step?

Next is the DSN. I've used both ODBCConfig, and odbcinst with the same end results:

root@USBOU1-DHDLINUX:~# isql -v esp_ms_sql real_username real_password
[IM004][unixODBC][Driver Manager]Driver's SQLAllocHandle on SQL_HANDLE_HENV failed
[ISQL]ERROR: Could not SQLConnect

What am I missing here? I've spent 6 hours staring at the same bits of information, and I still don't see where I have erred...
