kmail and thunderbird with gmail smtp

    AHG!

    hello:

I'm having no success sending mail via gmail smtp. I am able to receive mail just fine.

    my settings are:

    smtp.gmail.com
    587
server authentication with my full email address and password
    TLS
    Plain authentication method

The error message is: cannot connect to host smtp.gmail.com

I have searched for solutions and found none. I have followed many dirrections online and have had no success.

    What am I missing?

    Thanks

I have the same problem. I have tried everything I can think of as well as info I have found through searches and still no luck.

Hopefully someone will find the solution as my hair is quickly disappearing :drown:

You've probably checked here and here?

Other than this, you could also use another smtp server, if you got an email account with your ISP, you can use their server, regardless of which email account you actually use. Just check on their internet site for the settings.

Ok, I know I could have edited the previous post, but I don't feel like adding pictures to it...

For the fun of it, I configured my email client, sylpheed-claws, for my gmail account. It works fine, both incoming and outgoing. Now, these problems are almost certainly just some configurations (especially since the first poster can't get two clients to work, both kmail and thunderbird), so here are screenies with my configs, I hope they help:
