Searching 4 videoprog
I'm searching for a program to cut avi and/or mpg movies. does anybody know a good prog for linux?

I'm not sure, but I think the GIMP can do that.

u coudl search thru www.sf.net , they always seem to have somethign useful.

Are you sure about that? I'm fairly sure that my GIMP has some video functionality. At the very least, it can split videos into frames, and I think that I read in the help file that it can do more. Admittedly, though, I don't really do much image/video editing...

Cinelerra is the most hardcore Linux video-editing software out there. From what I hear though its quite the resource hog, I believe the recommended specs are Dual 2Ghz Athlon 1GB RAM lots of storage and gigabit ethernet. I was reading up on their website and at least the author of the website seems like kind of a cocky arsehole. They don't recommend it for the home user, but recommend Virtualdub, Kino, MJPEG tools or MainActor. MainActor looks like the best alternative but it isn't free.
