Well, considering the mc wasn't found, wouldn't the logical conclusion be that you didn't install it?

It usually comes on the CD, just that it doesn't install by default. Now, I don't use Mandrake, so I don't know exactly what its canonical way to install packages is, but there usually is some kind of administrative tool that comes with it that allows you to do just that. Someone who actually uses Mandrake will have to give you the exact name of it, in case you can't find it yourself.

what is this mc supposed to do?
in my system (mdksomewhere between 9.0 & 10.0) mc is a fiel manager, howver based on your post i guess u are after madnrake control center.
this commadn is mcc
ive never got the mandrake rpm isntaller to work right, it keeps screwign up the sources, but the rpms are on the cd's under /mnt/cdrom/Mandrake/RPMS/filename.rpm
(note: RPMS is replaced with RPMS2 on cd 2 etc.)
the mc package i have installed is mc-4.5.55-10mdk although thats probably nowhere near the latest version.[/list]
