Yes, I would think so (atlest, that's what I just do) but make shure that the ~/.mozilla config files remains untouched!

Why 1.5 when 1.6 is released?
What you need to do is to uninstall your previous Mozilla version. I don't know what horrors would unfold if you did otherwise, but all the Mozilla docs emphasize very much that one should never, ever install a newer version of Mozilla without uninstalling the old one first.
