    FC - Sendmail

For some strange reason, when the start up scripts are loading during init 5, the sendmail startup script takes about to to three minutes to start. Does anyone know what the problem with this is?

Have you checked your sendmail log files to see what's going on? See if there's anything wierd in there...

Also, try to start the script manually and see what you can see from that.

Looks like it's having problem with my hostname not being resolved correctly:
    Code:
Jan 31 16:19:11 spruce sm-msp-queue[2833]: My unqualified host name (spruce) unk
    nown; sleeping for retry
Jan 31 16:20:12 spruce sm-msp-queue[2833]: unable to qualify my own domain name
    (spruce) -- using short name
    Jan 31 16:20:12 spruce sm-msp-queue[2835]: starting daemon (8.12.10): queueing@0
    1:00:00
As I've never dealt with sendmail, I'm not sure what I need to do.

You'll have to give yourself a FQDN (fully qualified domain name) (or at least that's how I fixed it on my box). Just make your /etc/hosts look like:

    Code:
    x.x.x.x hostname.domain.com hostname
