    download alien from here.
    Alien is a Perl script in its current form. So it doesn't use the standard install methods for tar-balls. Instead you should read the directions in the "INSTALL" file, modified as shown below.
    Code:
    perl Makefile.PL
    make PREFIX=/usr
    su -c 'make PREFIX=/usr install'

    Hi casper

    I downloaded the package and saved it on the Desktop. But afterward as I tried to use all the above commands it is giving me .bash related error .

    So what to do next?

    navigate to Desktop in terminal using 'cd' command.
    Code:
    cd ~/Desktop
    before executing commands, read README file in the package. in case, you get error again, post exact error message here.

    A great alternative is transmission. I use it in Ubuntu and works perfect!
