im new to linux and would like to find out if there is a program that can load videos onto my ipod video. also is there any programs that can encode avi to ipod format in linux?
any help would be appreciated

Handbrake can convert DVD's to play on an iPod. I'm not sure if it can convert AVI files.
podencoder is another option that can use eithe DVD's or individual files as a source.
Hopefully one of those two can help.

If you use KDE I'd try the iPod KIO Slave. Then you can just drag and drop in a file manager. You could also trry YamiPod or gtkpod.

You could try http://thinliquidfilm.org which is specifically designed to convert and transfer videos to your ipod.

I just heard about that one for the first time yesterday. I haven't tried it, but it looks promising.
