Upgrading from Gaim to Pidgin from manually downloaded package
I've found a .deb of the latest version of Pidgin(re branded from Gaim). I've downloaded it, but don't know the best way to upgrade.
As it's been rebranded, the package name has change, therefore I won't be able to do a straight update like I can with packages that keep their names in between versions. That means I'll need to completely remove Gaim, and its footprint, and install Pidgin in its place. But I don't want to have to re-enter all my account info.
Is there any way I can upgrade without the rebranding problem forcing me to re-enter everything?

pidgin, upon install, should try to copy your settings from gaim over to pidgin
