I'm looking for an image viewing application. The basic function that I need are to be able to browse a directory (maybe on the left hand side) with the actual image on the right side. I'd prefer KDE applications but any kind can be used.

Have you checked out electrict eyes and/or feh?
You also have chekced out gqview?
