I would like to do the above conversion for some old songs so I can get them on my MP3. I could not download the conversion software on to my HP mini which is run on Open SUSE.
I tried on my MAC. The software got downloaded alright, but when I open the file -- hmm....its meant for Windows run computers-- all I can see is a whole string of undecipherable codes in the download!!
Can anyone suggest a workable software to do the conversion successfully? Pls.

Install mplayer from your package manager and do it on the console.

You package manager ist that program responsible for installing applications to your computer. On OpenSUSE, e.g., you can install software with Yast.

I use a program called "sound converter". It has a nice GUI. I just drag the file to convert and set properties to convert to mp3 and everything is done in less than 20 seconds per song at the average. FWIW ;)
