It's checking the downloaded file before burning to be sure it hasn't been tampered with and that it's the same as the file that was mean to be distributed. You want this, as it's a good thing. You can download the md5 checksum file from the same location and then compare it to the numbers K3b gives you to make certain all is as it should be.
