Hello, I just got mplayer installed and got it working except for the sound. I typed in the code:
It said playing (file) but i didn't hear anything. If you could resond that would be great. Thanks so much.
I assume that other apps, like xmms or other music player, can produce sound?
I'm not sure about configuration at the command line, but I know that if you've got the gui front end you can select Preferences->Audio
Do you know which sound architecture you're using? Probably ALSA? If so, try clicking on 'Configure Driver' and making sure that it't set to default. If that doesn't work (it probably requires restarting mplayer), try some other settings, in particular the 'hw=x.x' options.
0.0 is the first device on the first sound card,
1.0 is the first device on the second card, ect.
hope this helps
I do have sound working with sound files. It is just the .mid files that won't play in any music player. Do you know any program for linux that will play midi files? Thanks again.
I don't really know anything about midi. Sorry.
The problem is most likely the lack of midi hardware support on your sound card. Try a program like Timidity++ which is a software midi synthesizer. This will play through the usual aRts or whatever soundserver. If you have knoppix on the internet and you can't find the application in the menu try
to install it. You will need to run that command as root.
apt-get install timitdity++
Sorry my edit is not working - obviously I've spelt timidity++ wrong in the code above. :oops: Sorry.
I tried to run timidity to play a midi file but this is what came up:
I type a file in but that message comes up. Any ideas? Thanks again.
root@0[knoppix]# timidity (file)
/usr/local/share/timidity/timidity.cfg: No such file or directory
timidity: Can't read any configuration file.
Please check /usr/local/share/timidity/timidity.cfg
