Please give me a "low-tech" explanation why my xemacs fonts arnt TTF

Hello there,

I have ubuntu 10.10, and I really like the font in the terminal. I believe it may be called Monospace?

I want to use this typeface in xemacs that i recently downloaded. However, it seems none of the fonts that I can choose from the drop down menu are anti-aliased fonts. I've been trying to figure it out by using google, but I have found no simple step-by-step explanation that tells me how to do it. They all use terminology that are above my level.

I was hoping somebody could take the time to explain how to do it step by step. I guess it should be very simple.
