[SOLVED] dargui: Who is malcolm?

While installing dargui many warnings are displayed "warning: user malcolm does not exist - using root".
There is indeed no user malcolm on my machine. Why is dargui testing for this user anyway?

Is this just a bug or should I add user malcolm for correct functioning of dargui?

Apparently it's the name of the program's author.
I guess he has a sense of humor.

In that case, I definitely do not understand this type of humor.

What ever is installing the files from the RPM, tar, cp whatever is either keeping the original owner / permissions of the files or the install script is trying to set them.

It happens with the odd install and generally is nothing to be be worried about, if the package has come from a reputable source.

I was indeed a bit worried about the security.

By the way, I'm pretty sure that this package is coming from a reputable source (DarGUI Project: Home).

So if I understood correctly the install script is trying to set the file ownership, but unsuccessfully. As a consequence the ownership is assigned to root. This however does not affect the operation of the application in question.

That warning appears only if one try to install source package (.src.deb or rpm) instead of regular.
Are you sure that you are installing correct version?

Casper, I've seen it with regular RPM's on occasion.

However, that doesn't mean that you shouldn't check blnl!

Not really much to worry about if it's from a legit source and you should be able to check the md5 sums.

Definately worth letting the maintainter know though.

This is correct version. Inform its maintainer that source user "malcolm" has not been removed from permission properties
