Synaptic and keyboard shortcuts

Is there a way to configure the keyboard shortcuts in Synaptic? There is really just one thing I need: in the "search" dialog, how do I change between the alternatives in the drop-down menu, between (Look in) "Name" and "Name and description"? I've tried every possible key combination I can think of, but so far I always end up having to use the mouse. It's not a big thing, but it's driving me crazy...
A related question: is there a good alternative to Synaptic, which has its features but not its flaws...?

There's Kpackage, which is nice, also aptitude... Can't help you with the short-cuts, though. If you don't want to use the mouse, just go with the command line, it's faster.

yes, and I do that if I know exactly what I want, but what if I want something related to xfce, but I don't know exactly what? Then I suppose I would need some tool to search the repository database - and there is nothing wrong with a GUI for that kind of stuff, is there...? :-)
